Course Overview

This course is a guide
for local health officials and their partners in the local public health
system to coordinate plans to provide mass distribution of
pharmaceuticals for the jurisdiction as they relate to the Division of
the Strategic National Stockpile (DSNS) Program. The purpose of this
course is to enhance a jurisdiction’s preparedness and emergency
response efforts by developing (or revising) a plan addressing an all
hazards approach toward mass prophylaxis. The course is delivered by two
public health professionals and consists of a combination of lectures,
small group activities and a tabletop exercise/game

Workshop Topics:
-
The first day of
training focuses on the community response plan and how to achieve CDC’s
48-
-
Hour standard for mass
prophylaxis. The second day of training focuses on Point of Dispensing
site preparedness. The course material is applicable to pandemic
influenza, bio-terrorism and epidemic preparedness. Participants also
receive a mass prophylaxis planning “tool box.”

Upon completion of
this course, participants will be Able to: Initiate or refine their
community/jurisdiction SNS plan. Initiate or refine infectious disease
continuity of operations plans for closed populations such as
businesses. Implement the principles and practices of planning,
preparing and coordinating with other agencies. Understand and
demonstrate POD setup and resource/ personnel alignment for efficient,
extended POD operations.
